A group of people interested in Creative Writing formed Greenock Writers’ Club on 20th March 1968. Membership has grown steadily over the years, as has the range of subject matter covered by the Club. This now includes most literary subjects, such as short stories, one-act plays, poetry, articles for magazines, etc. All interests are catered for, as each session is pre-programmed to include a variety of writing pursuits in accordance with the wishes of the current membership.

Members range from adolescents through the middle-aged to a few of the older, more mature members of the Club, and the Club itself is a founder member of the S.A.W., the Scottish Association of Writers.

Office Bearers and a supporting committee, elected annually, run the club and it is supported by Membership Fees, and grants from several sources, including The Arts Council and Awards for All.

Over the years it has produced writers like Cathy McPhail, Margaret Ryan and Evelyn Hood, local writers who are now household names. Why not come and join us and perhaps add your name to the list. Everyone has at least one great story within them, so come and have a go at committing your words to paper. Perhaps by doing so you could be taking the first steps to immortality!
