Last night saw the grand finale to The Greenock Writers club season with our annual dinner which on this occasion took place at Gourock Golf Club where good food and resplendent views were enjoyed by over 20 of the club’s members. Guest Adjudicator, Mary Edward, was also present and delivered her verdict on the eight entries competing for the Janetta Bowie Memorial Trophy for best Memoir.

Along with a gentle rebuke as to why there were not more entries (after all we all have our stories to tell) the good lady commented on the high standard of the entries and how difficult it was to separate them. With the exception, that is, of the ultimate winner which was by the ubiquitous Anthony Watt. Tony proceeded to read out his tale detailing his lifelong struggle for physical fitness and sporting proficiency told with both a keen insight and a deprecating sense of humour.

The results of the Memoir competition were as follows:

1st Tony Watt …………………………….. Gina, Jane and Me

2nd Helen Hefferman…………………. The Great Australian Adventure

3rd Mary McCue………………………… Annus Horribilis

Hon Men. Colette Hannigan………… Milport

Oh Well I hope everyone has a good summer and ….. keep writing! Arruff!

Onwards and Upwards.
