Well it was adjudication time in the clubhouse once more. This time for a short story inspired by a picture. Our gracious and hard working adjudicator had a very difficult job trying to separate out the winners from twelve very strong contenders.

As Pauline said, having a picture as an inspiration was a great idea (thanks David) for it can lead to a lot of cross-fertilisation in the creative process. From the world of photo journalism to devising an entire life and character from just one image.

The winners (of course everyone’s a winner really) were:

1st Place……………….: Fiona Dorchester (Two pints of lager and a villanelle)

2nd Place………………: Dave Watson (Time and Space)

3rd Place…………..…: Mary McCue (Two for Joy)

Honourable Mention: David McKelvie (The Longest Night)  and Edith Sanders (Sunflowers in September)

Just a quick reminder to say that that though the submission date for the Scottish Icon competition is now passed we are still looking for your Scottish Icon stories for a prospective book. Even if you have done one for the competition why not have a go at another. Remember there are no constraints on these. They can be fiction or non fiction, poetry or short story and up to 3000 words in length. If you have any please email them to the following address calzacgwc@gmail.com
