It was a very busy evening tonight. Isobel, our Club Secretary, presented the rules to all members and visitors for Competition Entry. She pointed out the right and wrong ways to enter. Although not complicated she said it was important that all members follow our guidelines when submitting work for the competitions. A simple thing like going over the word count would disqualify a story she explained to the members and guests. Everyone found Isobel’s presentation to be very informative. Isobel also made-up gave a handout of the rules to everyone.

Next we had four visitors from Ayr Writers’ Group who travelled to Greenock on what was not the best of evenings the weather being so poor. Fiona McFadzean (also Competition Secretary of SAW), Fiona Atchison (joint President of Ayr Writers), Catherine Lang and Helena Sheridan.

The ladies shared their ‘Secrets of Success.’  Ayr Writers’ Club members are known to win many writing competitions. Their membership enter a wide variety of competitions including many of the Scottish Association of Writers annual events.  They have a high success rate of winners and placed positions across all genres.

The ladies have also published a set of four anthologies under a splinter group call ‘LiterEight’ They read two short stories from each book which were all well received.  The evening finished off with a Tea Towel reading – Yes a poem on a tea towel from a turkey’s point of view about Christmas.

Remember if you think you have a story in you then why not join Greenock Writers’ Club.  It’s a very friendly bunch of people and no pressure is put on anyone to write.img_4455
