January comes with Gales, frost and lots of varying lurgies of which at least 12 have infected me since the New Year.
Apologies for the lack of Blog posting of late.
However, our speaker on Wednesday 18th January helped blow away the January Blues and put a spring in our step , an artists notepad in our hands and encouraged us to look about and write down what we see in poetical form.
Lesley Traynor is a published poet and writer and she took us through her latest process of researching archives and historical documents at home and abroad to assist her latest novel. Writing poetry about characters and places , before crafting a chapter helped give her writing a poetical flavour.
She encouraged us to go out into the streets , parks and countryside and take note of what we see and letting it inspire us. She told us she uses the wee self-crafted artist pads to note things down in prose or poetry , perhaps adding a sketch too.
Lesley has a wonderful way with words, taking the ordinary, the every day and turning it into works of poetry and the evenings talk was superb.
Hopefully it inspired many of us in attendance especially the Poetical among us – looking at you Grahame Anderson !
Our writing exercise certainly produced some excellent poetry from our members as well as our President.
Her parting gift was a wee hand crafted artists notepad to encourage our observation and inspire our writing.
